Transport and feedback in fluid-solid systems

In this talk, I will present experimental studies exploring the interplay between transport and feedback in fluid-solid systems. The first part focuses on unidirectional transport in a bioinspired soft channel containing a series of valves acting as nonlinearities. Under externally imposed contractions, the system exhibits robust flow rectification, regardless of actuation mode or even the presence of counteracting pressure gradients. The second part explores ion transport and mineral precipitation in geological environments, from thin-film gravity-driven drainage to flow through porous media. Such systems show how fluid flow and mixing control mineralization, and how the resulting structure, in turn, reshapes the flow pathways. Together, these examples illustrate how the coupling between transport and evolving geometry governs the dynamics across a range of systems.
